The number of BMW models and equipment variants is almost unlimited, and therefore we cannot guarantee that Wonder Wheel is supported on all models – even if it is indicated on the website. Consequently, it may be necessary to purchase a Chigee Remote to get support for Wonder Wheel.

Unfortunately, there are also some BMW models that are not compatible with the Chigee AIO-5 Play for BMW at all, but here you can instead order  Chigee AIO-5 EVO which fits on all motorcycles where there is room for mounting.

Is AIO-5 Play BMW compatible with my BMW?

AIO-5 Play for BMW is specifically designed for BMW motorcycles equipped with the original BMW Connected Ride navigation cradle. It plugs directly into the cradle and is powered by your BMW's electrical system - no additional wiring required.

As long as your motorbike has the original BMW Connected Ride navigation cradle, AIO-5 Play for BMW can be switched on and used.

However, please note that some BMW models may have limited functionality due to differences in system software or configuration. These limitations do not affect the basic power supply or display function, but may affect specific features such as Wonder Wheel support or motor data.

Before making a purchase, it is therefore recommended to check the compatibility with your specific BMW motorbike by looking in the table below.

Engine data is activated by transferring ECU data from BMW via the original BMW navigation cradle to the Chigee unit.

For some models (especially before 2017) the necessary motor data may be missing on the LIN bus. In these cases, the Chigee device can not access engine data even if the original BMW navigation cradle is installed.

If your BMW is listed with engine data support but you still cannot read data:

  1. First, confirm that you have it original BMW navigation holder.

  2. Clean all connections. The metal contacts on the connector and the 3-pin connector between the motorbike and the navigation cradle.

  3. If the Chigee device receives power from the navigation cradle and can use the Wonder Wheel, the device is working correctly. If so, the error is most likely caused by your BMW system or the navigation cradle.

  4. You should still be able to see the Chigee dashboard.

    If only the following are displayed Partial dataThis means that your BMW is only sending limited information. The Chigee device can only display what is actually delivered - it cannot control or expand the data stream.

The Wonder Wheel support shown in the table below assumes that the code SA 272 is activated in the software of your BMW motorbike.

We have found that in some cases BMW motorcycles are delivered from the factory without SA 272 enabled. Please visit this page to learn how to activate it.

You can also choose to purchase the CGRC CAN module to enable Wonderwheel support - even if SA 272 is not activated. See the compatibility table for details.

Tip:

  1. If you cannot use Wonder Wheel after installation, first make sure you have selected "NAV" (not "CGRC") under Settings > Features > RC on your Chigee device.

  2. Check if you have selected "NAV" and not "TFT" in the display on your BMW motorbike - "NAV" is activated by pressing and holding the Menu button for a few seconds.

  3. Then check if your motorbike requires SA 272 activation.

  4. If the Wonder Wheel still doesn't work, we recommend purchasing the CGRC CAN module - even if your BMW is listed with Wonder Wheel support, some models may still require the module.

  5. If the Wonder Wheel is still not working, we suggest you purchase the wireless instead CGRC Remote Pro - a remote control specially developed by Chigee.

When using the Wonder Wheel with the CGRC CAN module, it enables control of the Chigee device.

As the Wonder Wheel was originally designed for BMW's own instrumentation, on certain K1600 and RT models you may find that Wonder Wheel controls both systems simultaneouslybecause of their unique control logic.

Please review restrictions on this website before you buy CGRC CAN.

If your BMW was born with the 3-pin connector for navigation but is not equipped with the original BMW navigation cradle, you can still make your motorbike compatible with the AIO-5 Play BMW version.

Contact your BMW dealer, order the installation of the original BMW navigation holder and Make sure you activate the code SA 272. This allows the AIO-5 Play to integrate seamlessly with your motorbike and access all the features (with the caveats .

If your BMW has a factory-installed TPMS, Chigee can read TPMS data directly - provided your BMW supports data transfer as mentioned on this page.

If your motorbike does not support data transfer, the TPMS data will not be available on your Chigee device.

If your BMW does not have a factory-fitted TPMS, we recommend purchasing Chigee's own TPMS.

CGRC CAN vs. CGRC LIN

Both CGRC CAN and CGRC LIN are specifically designed for BMW motorcycles.

Please note that Chigee OBD modules are not compatible with BMW motorcycles.

Installation

  • CAN RMAF supports three connection types:

    • 8-pin to DWA module

    • 6-pin to DWA module

    • 4-pin to RDC module

     

  • LIN RMCC connects directly to the 3-pin connector for navigation, which requires the original BMW holder to be removed. This means that the CGRC LIN not can be used simultaneously with AIO-5 Play for BMW or AIO-6 with BMW Quick-Release module, as these models both require the original BMW navigation cradle.

The AIO-5 Play for BMW is fully compatible with the original Garmin AMPS Rugged Mount. When using this official mount, you can expect full functionality, including power supply, data reading and operation via the Wonder Wheel.

However, the market offers many non-original Garmin-like mounts or mounts with corresponding 18-pin connectors. These usually provide power to the device, but may not support all functions. For full functionality (power, data readout and Wonder Wheel control), the bracket must have an interface protocol that matches BMW's original Navigation Preparation system.

Therefore, before buying or using a non-original bracket, it is important to check whether its interface protocol matches BMW's original Navigation Preparation. If it does, you will have access to all functions. If you are unsure about the protocol or it does not match BMW's, the bracket can still be used for power supply, but data reading and Wonder Wheel control may not work.

For the best experience and full functionality, we recommend using the original BMW Navigation Preparation and the original Garmin 18-pin mount, or carefully verifying the compatibility of third-party mounts before purchase.

Yes, the BMW Wonder Wheel is supported on the AIO-5 Play for BMW, however, you need to make sure your motorbike is compatible as some years and models require a Chigee remote control to be installed on the motorbike.

No, the device is powered via the connector and can therefore only be used when mounted in the cradle on the motorbike. However, you can connect the device to a power bank or power supply as long as you use a compatible USB-A / USB-C cable. Please note! USB-C / USB-C cables are not supported.
